Bill Title: Amends the General Assembly Article of the Illinois Pension Code. Provides that, on and after the effective date of the amendatory Act, a person may not become a member of the General Assembly Retirement System. Effective immediately.

1 | AN ACT concerning public employee benefits.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | Section 5. The Illinois Pension Code is amended by changing | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
5 | Section 2-105 as follows:
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
7 | Sec. 2-105. Member. "Member": Until the effective date of | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
8 | this amendatory Act of the 97th General Assembly, members | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
9 | Members of the General Assembly of this
State including persons | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
10 | who enter military service while a member of the
General | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
11 | Assembly and any person serving as Governor,
Lieutenant | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
12 | Governor, Secretary of State, Treasurer, Comptroller, or | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
13 | Attorney
General for the period of service in such office.

14 | Until the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 97th | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
15 | General Assembly, any Any person who has served for 10 or more | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
16 | years as Clerk or Assistant Clerk
of the House of | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
17 | Representatives, Secretary or Assistant Secretary of the
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
18 | Senate, or any combination thereof, may elect to become a | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
19 | member
of this system while thenceforth engaged in such service | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
20 | by filing a
written election with the board. Any person so | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
21 | electing shall be
deemed an active member of the General | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
22 | Assembly for the purpose of validating
and transferring any | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
23 | service credits earned under any of the funds and systems

1 | established under Articles 3 through 18 of this Code.

2 | Notwithstanding any other provision of this Code, on and | ||||||
3 | after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 97th | ||||||
4 | General Assembly, a person may not become a member of the | ||||||
5 | retirement system created under this Article. | ||||||
