Bill Title: Amends the Illinois Police Training Act. Provides that the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board shall conduct or approve a training program in veterans' awareness for law enforcement officers of local government agencies. Provides that the purpose of the program shall be to identify issues relating to veterans and to provide guidelines for appropriate responses to such issues.

SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
50 ILCS 705/10.16 new

Amends the Illinois Police Training Act. Provides that the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board shall conduct or approve a training program in veterans' awareness for law enforcement officers of local government agencies. Provides that the purpose of the program shall be to identify issues relating to veterans and to provide guidelines for appropriate responses to such issues.

1 AN ACT concerning local government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois Police Training Act is amended by
5adding Section 10.16 as follows:
6 (50 ILCS 705/10.16 new)
7 Sec. 10.16. Veterans' awareness.The Illinois Law
8Enforcement Training Standards Board shall conduct or approve a
9training program in veterans' awareness for law enforcement
10officers of local government agencies. The program shall train
11law enforcement officers to identify issues relating to
12veterans and provide guidelines dictating how law enforcement
13officers should respond to and address such issues.
