Bill Title: Amends the Illinois Dental Practice Act. Adds a provision that allows dentists with the appropriate training to administer vaccinations to patients 10 years of age and older pursuant to a valid prescription or standing order of a physician. Provides that vaccinations may only be administered for influenza, hepatitis B, HPV, and shingles. Effective immediately.

AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 3409
2 AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 3409 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
4 "Section 5. The Illinois Dental Practice Act is amended by
5adding Section 54.3 as follows:
6 (225 ILCS 25/54.3 new)
7 Sec. 54.3. Vaccinations; immunizations. Notwithstanding
8Section 54.2 of this Act, a dentist enrolled in a medical
9network or enrolled as a Medicare or Medicaid provider may
10administer vaccinations upon completion of appropriate
11training on how to address contraindications and adverse
12reactions. Vaccinations shall be limited to patients 10 years
13of age and older pursuant to a valid prescription or standing
14order by a physician. In addition, vaccinations shall be
15limited to influenza (inactivated influenza vaccine and live
16attenuated influenza intranasal vaccine), hepatitis B, HPV,

1and shingles vaccines with notification to the patient's
2physician and with appropriate reporting and record
3retention.".
