Bill Title: Amends the Illinois Dental Practice Act. Adds a provision that allows dentists with the appropriate training to administer vaccinations to patients 10 years of age and older pursuant to a valid prescription or standing order of a physician. Provides that vaccinations may only be administered for influenza, hepatitis B, HPV, and shingles. Effective immediately.

AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 3409
2 AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 3409, AS AMENDED,
3by replacing everything after the enacting clause with the
4following:
5 "Section 5. The Illinois Dental Practice Act is amended by
6adding Section 54.3 as follows:
7 (225 ILCS 25/54.3 new)
8 Sec. 54.3. Vaccinations; immunizations. Notwithstanding
9Section 54.2 of this Act, a dentist enrolled in a medical
10network or enrolled as a Medicare or Medicaid provider may
11administer vaccinations to patients enrolled in the same
12medical network or enrolled in Medicare or Medicaid upon
13completion of appropriate training on how to address
14contraindications and adverse reactions. Vaccinations shall be
15limited to patients 18 years of age and older pursuant to a
16valid prescription or standing order by a physician. In

1addition, vaccinations shall be limited to influenza
2(inactivated influenza vaccine) with notification to the
3patient's physician and with appropriate reporting and record
4retention.
5 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
6becoming law.".
