Bill Title: Amends the Illinois Dental Practice Act. Adds a provision that allows dentists with the appropriate training to administer vaccinations to patients 10 years of age and older pursuant to a valid prescription or standing order of a physician. Provides that vaccinations may only be administered for influenza, hepatitis B, HPV, and shingles. Effective immediately.

2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 3409, AS AMENDED, | ||||||
3 | by replacing everything after the enacting clause with the | ||||||
4 | following:

5 | "Section 5. The Illinois Dental Practice Act is amended by | ||||||
6 | adding Section 54.3 as follows:

7 | (225 ILCS 25/54.3 new) | ||||||
8 | Sec. 54.3. Vaccinations; immunizations. Notwithstanding | ||||||
9 | Section 54.2 of this Act, a dentist enrolled in a medical | ||||||
10 | network or enrolled as a Medicare or Medicaid provider may | ||||||
11 | administer vaccinations to patients enrolled in the same | ||||||
12 | medical network or enrolled in Medicare or Medicaid upon | ||||||
13 | completion of appropriate training on how to address | ||||||
14 | contraindications and adverse reactions. Vaccinations shall be | ||||||
15 | limited to patients 18 years of age and older pursuant to a | ||||||
16 | valid prescription or standing order by a physician. In |

1 | addition, vaccinations shall be limited to influenza | ||||||
2 | (inactivated influenza vaccine) with notification to the | ||||||
3 | patient's physician and with appropriate reporting and record | ||||||
4 | retention.

5 | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon | ||||||
6 | becoming law.".
