A bill to amend 1939 PA 280, entitled
"The social welfare act,"
(MCL 400.1 to 400.119b) by adding section 57v.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 57v. (1) In addition to the federal prohibition on
supplemental nutrition assistance program recipients using food
assistance benefits on an electronic benefit card to purchase
prepared food in restaurants and fast food establishments in
certain instances, a family independence program recipient shall
not use cash assistance benefits on an electronic benefit card to
purchase prepared food in restaurants and fast food establishments.
(2) Subsection (1) does not apply to the following cash
assistance recipients who are allowed under the supplemental
nutrition assistance program to purchase prepared food in certain
authorized restaurants:
(a) Individuals 60 years of age and over and their spouses.
(b) Blind and disabled supplemental security income recipients
and their spouses.
(c) Homeless individuals.
