A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING COACH HUGH FREEZE UPON HIS HIRING AS THE HEAD COACH OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI REBELS FOOTBALL TEAM.

     WHEREAS, Hugh Freeze, a native of Senatobia, Mississippi, and former Head Coach for the Arkansas State University Red Wolves Football Team, has been hired as the Head Coach of the University of Mississippi Rebels Football Team; and

     WHEREAS, the Ole Miss Rebels football program possesses a rich history of legendary players and historic coaches, and Coach Freeze's hiring as head coach is a testament to that tradition; and

     WHEREAS, a 1992 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, Coach Freeze holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and a minor in coaching and sports administration; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Freeze began his coaching career at Briarcrest Christian School in Memphis, Tennessee, as the offensive coordinator and defensive backs coach from 1992-1994, and was promoted to head coach in 1995; and

     WHEREAS, as the Head Coach at Briarcrest, Coach Freeze led his team to the state championship twice and had the privilege to coach Briarcrest's most renowned player, Michael Oher; and

     WHEREAS, after leaving Briarcrest in 2004, Coach Freeze made a name for himself in the college football arena as the tight end coach and recruiting coordinator at Ole Miss from 2006-2007, as the Head Coach at Lambuth University from 2008-2009 and as the offensive coordinator at Arkansas State in 2010 before being promoted to Head Coach at Arkansas State in 2011; and

     WHEREAS, while at Arkansas State, Coach Freeze's offense broke nine school records, including total plays, first downs, pass attempts, pass completions, completion percentage, passing yards, passing yards per game and passing touchdowns; and

     WHEREAS, under the tutelage and direction of Coach Freeze, the Red Wolves' powerful offensive attack posted over 300 yards each of the 12 times it took the field during the 2010 season; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Freeze takes over as the Head Coach of the Ole Miss Rebels, taking his place at the helm of Mississippi's most historically successful football program; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize talented individuals in this state, such as Coach Freeze, who is certain to make monumental strides as the leader of Mississippi's most prominent and celebrated football program:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Coach Hugh Freeze upon being named the new Head Coach of the University of Mississippi Rebels Football Team, and extend sincerest wishes for success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Freeze, the University of Mississippi and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
