Short Title:        Relief for Working Families Act.

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to enact the relief for working families act.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  Article 1 of Chapter 95 of the General Statutes is amended by adding a new section to read:

"§ 95‑9.2.  Employers to notify employees of federal earned income tax credit.

It shall be the duty of every employer to notify each employee of the federal earned income tax credit no later than March 1 of each year. Employers may satisfy the requirement of this section by providing a copy of the Department of the Treasury Internal Revenue Service Notice 797 or the language of that notice to each employee. Notice may be posted and kept in a conspicuous place in a room to which each employee has free access, by electronic mail to the employee's last known address, in person, by United States mail sent to the employee's last known address, or included with each employee's wage statement or payment.

SECTION 2.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
