A BILL
To enact section 4503.549 of the Revised Code to 1
create the Combat Medic license plate.2


BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

       Section 1. That section 4503.549 of the Revised Code be 3
enacted to read as follows:4

       Sec. 4503.549. (A) Any person who served in the armed forces 5
of the United States and was awarded the combat medical badge may 6
apply to the registrar of motor vehicles for the registration of 7
any passenger car, noncommercial motor vehicle, recreational 8
vehicle, or other vehicle of a class approved by the registrar 9
that the person owns or leases. The application shall be 10
accompanied by such documentary evidence in support of the award 11
as the registrar may require. The application may be combined with 12
a request for a special reserved license plate under section 13
4503.40 or 4503.42 of the Revised Code.14

       Upon receipt of an application for registration of a motor 15
vehicle under this section and the required taxes and fees, and 16
upon presentation of the required supporting evidence of the award 17
of the combat medical badge, the registrar shall issue to the 18
applicant the appropriate motor vehicle registration and a set of 19
license plates and a validation sticker, or a validation sticker 20
alone when required by section 4503.191 of the Revised Code.21

       In addition to the letters and numbers ordinarily inscribed 22
on license plates, the license plates shall be inscribed with the 23
medical words "combat medic" and bear a reproduction of the combat 24
medical badge. The license plates shall bear county identification 25
stickers that identify the county of registration by name or 26
number.27

       The license plates and a validation sticker or, when 28
applicable, a validation sticker alone shall be issued upon 29
payment of the regular license tax required by section 4503.04 of 30
the Revised Code, payment of any local motor vehicle license tax 31
levied under Chapter 4504. of the Revised Code, payment of any 32
applicable additional fee prescribed by section 4503.40 or 4503.42 33
of the Revised Code, and compliance with all other applicable laws 34
relating to the registration of motor vehicles.35

       (B) No person who is not a recipient of the combat medical 36
badge shall willfully and falsely represent that the person is a 37
recipient of the combat medical badge for the purpose of obtaining 38
license plates under this section. No person shall own a motor 39
vehicle bearing license plates issued under this section unless 40
the person is eligible to be issued those license plates.41

       (C) Sections 4503.77 and 4503.78 of the Revised Code do not 42
apply to license plates issued under this section.43
