A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To designate July 2013 as Ohio Independent Business 1
Month.2


BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO
(THE SENATE CONCURRING):


       WHEREAS, The members of the 130th General Assembly of the 3
State of Ohio are pleased to designate July 2013 as "Ohio 4
Independent Business Month"; and5

        WHEREAS, According to 2009 data collected by the federal 6
Small Business Administration, Ohio has over 880,000 small 7
businesses; and8

        WHEREAS, Small businesses represent over 98% of all Ohio 9
employers and employ 48% of the private sector workforce; and10

        WHEREAS, A 2011 private study that surveyed over 5,000 Ohio 11
businesses and consumers found that 83% of those surveyed 12
expressed support for Ohio small businesses, but felt that there 13
was no easy way to find information on such businesses; and14

        WHEREAS, Increased public awareness of Ohio's small 15
businesses is key to the well-being of the state's economy; now 16
therefore be it17

        RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 130th General Assembly 18
of the State of Ohio, in adopting this resolution, recognize July 19
2013 as Ohio Independent Business Month; and be it further20

        RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives 21
transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the 22
Governor and to the news media of Ohio.23
