WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize July 27, 2014, as National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day; and |
WHEREAS, On June 25, 1950, the Communist army of North Korea invaded and attacked South Korea, initiating the Korean War. With the United States as the executive agent, a United Nations Command was created to repel this invasion and preserve liberty for the people of the Republic of Korea, and more than 5,700,000 American service men and women were directly or indirectly involved in the war, resulting in 54,246 dead, 103,284 wounded, and 8,177 missing in action and prisoners of war, including many still unaccounted for. After three years of hostilities, a cease-fire agreement ending combat took effect on July 27, 1953; and |
WHEREAS, In 1994, the U.S. Congress designated July 27 each year as National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day, and this observance provides an ideal time to pay tribute to America's Korean War veterans for their praiseworthy efforts to ensure that our country shines as a beacon of hope and democracy for the people of the world. On this solemn occasion, we have the opportunity to acknowledge those brave individuals who answered this nation's call to arms and who made great sacrifices in service to the United States of America; and |
WHEREAS, The heroic traditions of our country's armed forces are an important part of our American heritage, and America's Korean War veterans strove to perpetuate and preserve this legacy. We applaud these fine men and women for their willingness to fight, and even to die, for our country's democratic ideals, and on National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day, it is both timely and appropriate that we honor them for their selflessness and courage; therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize July 27, 2014, as National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day and urge all Ohioans to participate in this observance; and be it further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the news media of Ohio. |
