AN ACT

Redesignating Concord Road (S.R. 3007) in Chester Township,

2

Delaware County, as Judge Robert A. Wright Memorial Road.

WHEREAS, Judge Robert A. Wright, a native of the City of

4

Chester, broke racial barriers by becoming the first African

5

American to serve in the Delaware County District Attorney's

6

Office and on the county court; and

7

WHEREAS, Judge Wright had the unique privilege of swearing in

8

his own son, Robert C. Wright, to the bench in 1992, and the two

9

also had the historic privilege of being the first father and

10

son to serve together on the Common Pleas Court for Delaware

11

County; and

12

WHEREAS, A graduate of Temple Law School, Judge Wright was

13

appointed to the court in 1970 and was elected to his first ten-

14

year term in 1971; and

15

WHEREAS, In December 1989, he was appointed to a senior

16

status on the court until 2003 when he was named a court

17

conciliator; and

WHEREAS, Prior to becoming a judge, he served six years as an

2

assistant district attorney; and

WHEREAS, Judge Wright received the Donald J. Orlowsky Award

4

from the Delaware County Bar Association and the Delaware County

5

Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Award; and

6

WHEREAS, Judge Wright will be remembered as a learned jurist

7

who combined integrity and compassion with his strong knowledge

8

of the law and who always reached a fair and just result; and

9

WHEREAS, After a distinguished law career spanning 45 years,

10

Judge Wright retired in 1989 and passed away on Wednesday,

11

February 3, 2010, at Glen Mills Senior Living at the age of 90.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

13

hereby enacts as follows:

14

Section 1.  Judge Robert A. Wright Memorial Road.

15

(a)  Redesignation.--The road located in Chester Township,

16

Delaware County, known as Concord Road (S.R. 3007) is

17

redesignated as Judge Robert A. Wright Memorial Road.

18

(b)  Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and

19

maintain appropriate road signs displaying the redesignated name

20

of the road to traffic in both directions.

21

Section 2.  Effective date.

22

This act shall take effect in 60 days.
