| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Amending the act of August 9, 1955 (P.L.323, No.130), entitled, |
2 | as amended, "An act relating to counties of the first, third, |
3 | fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth classes; amending, |
4 | revising, consolidating and changing the laws relating |
5 | thereto; relating to imposition of excise taxes by counties, |
6 | including authorizing imposition of an excise tax on the |
7 | rental of motor vehicles by counties of the first class; and |
8 | providing for regional renaissance initiatives," providing |
9 | for the abolishment of the office of jury commissioner in |
10 | certain counties. |
11 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
12 | hereby enacts as follows: |
13 | Section 1. Section 401 of the act of August 9, 1955 |
14 | (P.L.323, No.130), known as The County Code, is amended by |
15 | adding a subsection to read: |
16 | Section 401. Enumeration of Elected Officers.--* * * |
17 | (f) The office of jury commissioner may be abolished in a |
18 | county which, on January 1, 2011, was a county of the fourth |
19 | class having a population under the 2000 decennial census in |
20 | excess of 210,000 and having retained its classification from |
21 | the preceding decade as a result of the board of county |
22 | commissioners not having elected by ordinance or resolution to |

1 | advance its classification, if the governing body of the county |
2 | adopts, by a majority vote, a resolution abolishing the office |
3 | of jury commissioner. Upon approval of the resolution, the |
4 | office of jury commissioner shall expire at the completion of |
5 | the current jury commissioners' terms of office. The resolution |
6 | shall not be passed in any year in which the office of jury |
7 | commissioner is on the ballot. |
8 | Section 2. This act shall take effect immediately. |
