| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Recognizing the month of April 2009 as "Outdoor Heritage Month |
2 | in the Pennsylvania Alleghenies." |
3 | WHEREAS, Concern for the sustainability of natural resources, |
4 | global climate change, habitat conservation and pollution |
5 | reduction is increasing and causing a movement in going green; |
6 | and |
7 | WHEREAS, This Commonwealth is a large contributor of many |
8 | factors affecting environmental conditions worldwide; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Youth are spending more time with technological |
10 | devices and less time exploring nature; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Citizens of this Commonwealth have learned through |
12 | trial and error and continue to develop the means for |
13 | sustainability of natural resources; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Community organizations, agencies and citizens, led |

1 | by Natural Biodiversity and the Kiski-Conemaugh Stream Team, |
2 | have come together to recognize the rich outdoor heritage in the |
3 | Pennsylvania Alleghenies, as demonstrated by Outdoor Heritage |
4 | Month's new Internet website, www.ohmonth.com; and |
5 | WHEREAS, The collaborative efforts of these citizens have |
6 | resulted in numerous environmental services and learning |
7 | opportunities in the Pennsylvania Alleghenies; and |
8 | WHEREAS, The aim of their coordinated activities is to |
9 | educate and inspire the next generation to conserve and enjoy |
10 | this Commonwealth's natural resources; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Earth Day, National Arbor Day, National |
12 | Environmental Education Week, Children and Nature Awareness |
13 | Month, National Garden Month and National Youth Service Days |
14 | occur during the month of April; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Through educational events such as these, children, |
16 | the future leaders of this Commonwealth, will not only learn |
17 | that stewardship can be coupled with economic vitality, but also |
18 | realize that these two values must coincide in order to sustain |
19 | and enhance the quality of life for all persons in this |
20 | Commonwealth and beyond; and |
21 | WHEREAS, All citizens of Pennsylvania should be encouraged to |
22 | participate in the educational and service activities occurring |
23 | in the Pennsylvania Alleghenies and to acknowledge and celebrate |
24 | the achievements of all those who work together to recognize, |
25 | hone and preserve the great heritage of this Commonwealth; |
26 | therefore be it |
27 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the |
28 | month of April 2009 as "Outdoor Heritage Month in the |
29 | Pennsylvania Alleghenies." |
