| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Recognizing the month of July 2011 as the "We (Heart) Brain |
2 | Month" in Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, Thousands of youth athletes across this Commonwealth |
4 | each year experience concussions and traumatic brain injuries |
5 | while playing sports; and |
6 | WHEREAS, If not treated properly, such injuries can lead to |
7 | dramatic lifelong or life-threatening complications; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Increased awareness about concussions and traumatic |
9 | brain injuries amongst youth, coaches, parents and medical |
10 | professionals can help reduce the number of traumatic injuries |
11 | that take place in this Commonwealth; and |
12 | WHEREAS, John Gonoude of King of Prussia experienced multiple |
13 | brain injuries that ended his high school football career and |
14 | almost ended his life; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Tracy Yatsko of Tamaqua experienced multiple brain |
16 | injuries that ended her high school basketball career and almost |
17 | ended her life; and |
18 | WHEREAS, John Gonoude and Tracy Yatsko have admirably |

1 | dedicated their time and efforts to educating young athletes |
2 | across this Commonwealth to learn from their experiences and |
3 | protect their brains; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Save Your Brain's "We (Heart) Brain" campaign is |
5 | working to raise awareness of the concussion epidemic in youth |
6 | sports and to teach young athletes how to protect their brains; |
7 | and |
8 | WHEREAS, The House of Representatives is adopting this |
9 | resolution in order to recognize the efforts of John Gonoude and |
10 | Tracy Yatsko to protect young athletes in Pennsylvania and |
11 | across the nation; therefore be it |
12 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the |
13 | month of July 2011 as the "We (Heart) Brain Month" in |
14 | Pennsylvania. |
