A JOINT RESOLUTION
TO PROVIDE THAT DURING THE 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION MAY WAIVE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR MAKING UP DAYS BEYOND THE THREE DAYS THAT MAY BE FORGIVEN BY LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS FOR ANY DAYS MISSED DURING THE 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR BECAUSE OF SNOW, EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS, OR OTHER DISRUPTIONS REQUIRING SCHOOLS TO CLOSE, TO PROVIDE THESE WAIVERS ONLY MAY BE CONSIDERED AND GRANTED UPON REQUEST OF THE LOCAL SCHOOL BOARD OF TRUSTEES THROUGH A MAJORITY VOTE OF THAT LOCAL BOARD, AND TO PROVIDE THE PROVISIONS OF THIS JOINT RESOLUTION APPLY NOTWITHSTANDING THE PROVISIONS OF SECTION 59-1-425 OR ANOTHER PROVISION OF LAW.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. During the 2018-2019 School Year, the State Board of Education may waive the requirements of making up days beyond the three days forgiven by the local school district for any days missed during the 2018-2019 School Year because of snow, extreme weather conditions, or other disruptions requiring schools to close. Such a waiver only may be considered and granted upon the request of the local board of trustees through a majority vote of that local school board. The provisions of this joint resolution apply notwithstanding the provisions of Section 59-1-424 or another provision of law.
SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
