A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE JR. BISHOP DR. LINWOOD COOPER ON A WELL-DESERVED RECOGNITION FROM THE BELIEVERS HOLINESS CHURCH CONFERENCE.
Whereas, the Believers Holiness Church Conference honored Jr. Bishop Dr. Linwood Cooper for his dedicated service to the citizens of Williamsburg County on May 3, 2014, at the Believers Holiness Church Conference First Annual Bishop's Award Banquet; and
Whereas, Bishop Cooper, a native of Williamsburg County, is the son of the late Mr. Jeff W. Cooper and Mrs. Ada Bell Cooper; and
Whereas, Bishop Cooper received an associate of arts degree from Friendship Junior College in Rock Hill and a bachelor of arts degree in Social Work from Benedict College in Columbia. He holds a certificate in management from the Quality College in Orlando, Florida as well as a Certificate of Evangelism from Eastern Bible institute in Newark, New Jersey, and a Master of Religious Education from Lighthouse Christian College in Beebe, Arkansas. He also holds an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Good Hope Christian College in Florence and a Doctorate of Religious Education from Christian Outreach Bible Institute in Fayetteville, North Carolina; and
Whereas, he serves as the dean of the Believers Bible Institute in Coward, South Carolina. He is a notary public, an ordained minister, a member of the NAACP, is president of the Benedict Alumni Club of Williamsburg County, and is a member of the Williamsburg County School District Board of Trustees representing District #7; and
Whereas, Bishop Cooper currently serves as pastor of St. Mark Believers Holiness Church in Lake City and Trinity Believers Holiness Church in Kingstree. He is the assistant bishop of the Believers Holiness Conference; and
Whereas, Bishop Cooper is retired from the Williamsburg County Department of Social Services where he was an economic services program coordinator. He is presently employed with the Williamsburg County Disaster Emergency Preparedness as a community emergency response team coordinator and public information officer; and
Whereas, Bishop Cooper is very active in his community. He has received many awards as a result of his extensive community service. He is the Past Worshipful Master of Pride of Rose Hill Lodge #405, and is the Worthy Patron of Esther Chapter #265. He is commissioner of Williamsburg County Department of Disabilities and Special Needs and serves on the Williamsburg County Ministerial Alliance as well as the Williamsburg County Habitat for Humanity Board; and
Whereas, Bishop Cooper is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Dr. Ronald McNair Nursing Center, a past member of the Board of Directors of United Way, past recreation commissioner of Williamsburg County, past member of South Carolina State Department of Social Services Training Team, past recording secretary of the 11th Masonic district, past member of the executive board of the Georgetown Red Cross representing Williamsburg County, past member of Unity Advisor Board of Williamsburg County, past member of the Williamsburg County Schools Advisory Council, he served as chaplain in the 3rd brigade, 4th regiment, past office of captain in the South Carolina State Guard, past associate patron of the 6th district order of eastern stars; and
Whereas, Bishop Cooper is married to Evangelist Dr. Doretha McKnight Cooper, a retired social studies teacher with Williamsburg and Lee County School Districts. The two have one daughter, Evangelist Woodrena Cherise Segres, a son-in-law, and two loving grandchildren; and
Whereas, Dr. Cooper enjoys fishing, hunting, biking, gospel singing, and golf when he has free time; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate find it fitting to honor Sr. Bishop Dr. O.D. Fulton for his many years of dedicated service in furtherance of the God's kingdom. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Jr. Bishop Dr. Linwood Cooper on a well-deserved recognition from the Believers Holiness Church Conference.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Jr. Bishop Dr. Linwood Cooper.
