A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
 
  relating to a person holding office as a municipal judge in more
  than one municipality at the same time.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 574.001(b), Government Code, is amended
  to read as follows:
         (b)  A person may hold the office of municipal judge for more
  than one municipality at the same time [if each office is filled by
  appointment]. The holding of these offices at the same time is of
  benefit to this state.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect January 1, 2020, but only
  if the constitutional amendment proposed by the 86th Legislature,
  Regular Session, 2019, permitting a person to hold more than one
  office as a municipal judge at the same time is approved by the
  voters. If that proposed constitutional amendment is not approved
  by the voters, this Act has no effect.
