| relating to the operation of and license plates for private buses. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 504.503, Transportation Code, is amended | ||
| to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 504.503. MUNICIPAL, MOTOR, AND PRIVATE BUSES. (a) The | ||
| department shall issue without charge specialty license plates for: | ||
| (1) municipal buses; | ||

| (3) private buses that are designed to transport 16 or | ||
| more passengers, including the driver. | ||
| (b) The license plates must include the words "City Bus," | ||
| "Motor Bus," or "Private Bus," as appropriate. | ||
| SECTION 2. Subchapter B, Chapter 522, Transportation Code, | ||
| is amended by adding Section 522.016 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 522.016. PRIVATE BUS OPERATORS. (a) In this section, | ||
| "private bus" has the meaning assigned by Section 502.001. | ||
| (b) A person who operates a private bus is not required to | ||
| hold a commercial driver's license unless the private bus is | ||
| designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2013. | ||
