products originating in this state. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 433, Health and Safety | ||
Code, is amended by adding Section 433.046 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 433.046. VOLUNTARY TEXAS MEAT AND POULTRY LABELING | ||
PROGRAM. (a) The executive commissioner by rule shall, in | ||
consultation with representatives of the meat and poultry industry: | ||
(1) develop a label for meat and poultry products sold | ||
in this state that indicates whether a meat or poultry product | ||
originated in this state; and | ||
(2) develop incentives for a person who sells meat or | ||
poultry to use the label. | ||
(b) A meat or poultry product sold in this state is not | ||
required to include a label developed under this section. | ||
SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date | ||
of this Act, the executive commissioner of the Health and Human | ||
Services Commission shall adopt rules necessary to implement | ||
Section 433.046, Health and Safety Code, as added by this Act. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
