WHEREAS, The Brock High School girls' basketball team added | ||
to its tradition of excellence on the hardwood by winning its fifth | ||
consecutive University Interscholastic League 2A state | ||
championship on March 2, 2013, at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, Finishing with an outstanding record of 35 wins and | ||
just 5 losses, including a perfect 12-0 mark in district play, the | ||
Lady Eagles made a thrilling run through the postseason that | ||
included victories over Sunnyvale, Howe, Alba-Golden, and Alvord | ||
High Schools to reach the state tournament; after a resounding | ||
triumph in the semifinals against Centerville, Brock defeated | ||
Merkel in the title contest by a score of 40-32 to claim the eighth | ||
state crown in school history; and | ||
WHEREAS, Braylee Flaska scored 16 points in the tournament | ||
final to earn Most Valuable Player honors, and she was joined on the | ||
All-Tournament team by Cora Jenkins; the Lady Eagles also received | ||
significant contributions throughout the season from the other | ||
members of the roster: Rachel Harrell, Kylie Ducat, Sierra | ||
Bradshaw, Taylor Wallace, Cydnie Bynum, Bailey Ivey, Rachel | ||
Williams, Trisha Jacobs, Allie Popeck, Taylor Fulmer, and Lexie | ||
Ducat; and | ||
WHEREAS, The team was guided by head coach Chance | ||
Westmoreland and assistant coaches Jason Morales and Chrissy | ||
Worrell; additional support was provided by managers Shileigh Potts | ||
and Ashley Brawner, statisticians Madi Mayfield and Breana Madry, | ||
water girl Taylor Ducat, principal Jamie Payne, athletic director | ||
Scott Drillette, and superintendent Richard Tedder; and | ||
WHEREAS, In once again proving themselves to be the finest | ||
girls' 2A basketball squad in the Lone Star State, the Brock Lady | ||
Eagles have demonstrated exceptional teamwork and dedication, and | ||
their achievement is a source of tremendous pride to their school | ||
and their many supporters in the community; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate the Brock High School girls' | ||
basketball team on winning the 2013 UIL 2A state championship and | ||
extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best | ||
wishes for continued success; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. |
