WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
recognize the Covenant Classical School mock trial team for | ||
winning the 2023 Texas High School Mock Trial Competition in | ||
Dallas on March 4, 2023; and | ||
WHEREAS, Covenant Classical School in Fort Worth, a | ||
Christian classical school with 118 high school students, | ||
competed against 23 school teams to win the state championship at | ||
the 44th Annual Texas High School Mock Trial Competition at the | ||
George L. Allen Sr. Courts Building; and | ||
WHEREAS, The Dallas Bar Association Mock Trial Committee | ||
administers the statewide high school mock trial program, which | ||
was established to help students gain insight into courtroom | ||
procedure and develop skills in critical thinking and analysis; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, Covenant Classical School's team was assigned a | ||
fictitious case for which the students were prepared by attorneys | ||
and judges to roleplay from the perspective of every trial | ||
participant; and | ||
WHEREAS, Covenant Classical School's team comprises of | ||
bright, ambitious students who have demonstrated an impressive | ||
commitment to excellence; under the guidance of coordinators | ||
Judge Josh Burgess and attorney Scott Fredricks and team captains | ||
Sophia Foster and Jonathan Fredricks, team members Emerson | ||
Espanet, Elizabeth Farah, Nancy Jageman, Bridgett Kennedy, | ||
Daniel Keyes, Ellie Monwai, Sachi Monwai, Gracie Patel, Emma | ||
Pharris, Nate Smith, and Claire Tollefson performed with | ||
distinction, and the team was recognized by their fellow | ||
competitors at the mock trial competition with the Team | ||
Professionalism Award; and | ||
WHEREAS, Due to the team's hard work and exemplary | ||
performance, Covenant Classical School will represent the State | ||
of Texas at this year's National High School Mock Trial | ||
Competition, which takes place May 18 through 20, 2023, in Little | ||
Rock, Arkansas; team members have demonstrated outstanding | ||
dedication, fine sportsmanship, and excellent teamwork | ||
throughout the school year, and they are a source of tremendous | ||
pride to their families, their school, and the Fort Worth | ||
community; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Covenant | ||
Classical School mock trial team on winning the 2023 Texas High | ||
School Mock Trial Competition and extend to them best wishes for | ||
success at their appearance in the national competition in May; | ||
and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
