| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize the Covenant Classical School mock trial team for | ||
| winning the 2023 Texas High School Mock Trial Competition in | ||
| Dallas on March 4, 2023; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Covenant Classical School in Fort Worth, a | ||
| Christian classical school with 118 high school students, | ||
| competed against 23 school teams to win the state championship at | ||
| the 44th Annual Texas High School Mock Trial Competition at the | ||
| George L. Allen Sr. Courts Building; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Dallas Bar Association Mock Trial Committee | ||
| administers the statewide high school mock trial program, which | ||
| was established to help students gain insight into courtroom | ||
| procedure and develop skills in critical thinking and analysis; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, Covenant Classical School's team was assigned a | ||
| fictitious case for which the students were prepared by attorneys | ||
| and judges to roleplay from the perspective of every trial | ||
| participant; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Covenant Classical School's team comprises of | ||
| bright, ambitious students who have demonstrated an impressive | ||
| commitment to excellence; under the guidance of coordinators | ||
| Judge Josh Burgess and attorney Scott Fredricks and team captains | ||
| Sophia Foster and Jonathan Fredricks, team members Emerson | ||
| Espanet, Elizabeth Farah, Nancy Jageman, Bridgett Kennedy, | ||
| Daniel Keyes, Ellie Monwai, Sachi Monwai, Gracie Patel, Emma | ||
| Pharris, Nate Smith, and Claire Tollefson performed with | ||
| distinction, and the team was recognized by their fellow | ||
| competitors at the mock trial competition with the Team | ||
| Professionalism Award; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Due to the team's hard work and exemplary | ||
| performance, Covenant Classical School will represent the State | ||
| of Texas at this year's National High School Mock Trial | ||
| Competition, which takes place May 18 through 20, 2023, in Little | ||
| Rock, Arkansas; team members have demonstrated outstanding | ||
| dedication, fine sportsmanship, and excellent teamwork | ||
| throughout the school year, and they are a source of tremendous | ||
| pride to their families, their school, and the Fort Worth | ||
| community; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Covenant | ||
| Classical School mock trial team on winning the 2023 Texas High | ||
| School Mock Trial Competition and extend to them best wishes for | ||
| success at their appearance in the national competition in May; | ||
| and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
