Commending the Triangle Volunteer Fire Department.

WHEREAS, for 50 years, the Triangle Volunteer Fire Department in Nathalie has safeguarded the lives and property of the members of the Halifax County community; and

WHEREAS, in early 1974, approximately 20 residents of the Providence, Ellis Creek, and Hunting Creek areas of Halifax County met to discuss the need for local fire service; and

WHEREAS, the Triangle Volunteer Fire Department was officially incorporated on March 22, 1974, with Fulton Conner as its original president; and

WHEREAS, in its early days, the Triangle Volunteer Fire Department used a utility truck and a 1954 Ford tanker truck that had been purchased with donations from the community; local resident Cliff Anderson and his family also donated land for a new fire station, which was completed in 1975; and

WHEREAS, in the late 1970s, six members of the Triangle Volunteer Fire Department earned emergency medical service certifications to better care for the members of the department's service area, which covers more than 80 square miles of Halifax County; and

WHEREAS, the Triangle Volunteer Fire Department made important additions to the station in 2002 and dedicated the new facilities in honor of deceased and past members; the department further expanded the station in 2015; and

WHEREAS, the highly trained members of the Triangle Volunteer Fire Department utilize modern techniques and best practices to fulfill their duties, and the department now maintains one engine, one tanker, one emergency medical truck, two brush trucks, one equipment truck, and a utility vehicle, totaling seven apparatuses; and

WHEREAS, Triangle Volunteer Fire Department hosts numerous activities and events to raise funds and engage with local residents; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the Triangle Volunteer Fire Department of Halifax County hereby be commended on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Triangle Volunteer Fire Department as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the department's legacy of service to the Halifax County community.
