Commending the Liberty Champion.

WHEREAS, the Liberty Champion, the official student newspaper of Liberty University and the largest weekly newspaper in Central Virginia, celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2023; and

WHEREAS, the Liberty Champion circulates more than 13,000 weekly issues on the Liberty University campus and in the surrounding community, offering informative and insightful reporting from student journalists on a wide range of stories; and

WHEREAS, while many staff members of the Liberty Champion are students in communications or related fields, the newspaper provides undergraduate students of any major with opportunities to enhance their writing, editing, photography, or graphic design skills; and

WHEREAS, Deborah Huff, faculty advisor to the Liberty Champion, has been with the newspaper for more than 28 years and has watched countless students develop a passion for journalism or simply build critical skills that will serve them well long after graduation; and

WHEREAS, former staff members of the Liberty Champion have gone on to achieve success in journalism, social media, communications, graphic design, business, public relations, law enforcement, and many other careers; and

WHEREAS, in 2022, the Liberty Champion released a special 20-page edition that commemorated the 50th anniversary of Liberty University, which included profiles of prominent faculty, administrators, and alumni, athletic milestones, a timeline of campus development, and other engaging stories; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Liberty Champion hereby be commended on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Deborah Huff, faculty advisor to the Liberty Champion, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for its service to generations of Liberty University students and contributions to journalism in the Lynchburg region.
