Commending the Korean Community Service Center of Greater Washington.

WHEREAS, the Korean Community Service Center of Greater Washington, an organization dedicated to assisting and empowering Asian Americans and new immigrants through social services, education, advocacy, and other resources, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2024; and

WHEREAS, the Korean Community Service Center of Greater Washington (KCSC) was founded in 1974 by a pastor and his congregation who helped visitors and immigrants from Korea with basic transportation and interpretation and translation assistance, while also helping newcomers rent apartments, set up phone and utilities services, and enroll their kids in school; and

WHEREAS, over the past 50 years, KCSC has grown and evolved into the largest bilingual and bicultural Korean social service agency in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and now provides services to other Asian immigrant communities living in the region; and

WHEREAS, KCSC has served more than 150,000 Asian American immigrant families since it was founded and currently provides services to about 1,000 Asian Americans a month at four different office locations, including its headquarters in Annandale and branch offices in Maryland; and

WHEREAS, KCSC currently offers a variety of services and programs that are person-centered, culturally and linguistically competent, trauma-informed, community-based, and dedicated to developing helpful partnerships, collaborations, and alliances; and

WHEREAS, KCSC's services and programs include comprehensive social services and case management, immigration legal services, housing counseling and a first-time home buyers program, financial literacy classes, employment-counseling and job readiness services, a continuing education program for seniors, comprehensive services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, health care services and health education and outreach, and mental health and substance abuse counseling; and

WHEREAS, KCSC is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a gala on April 21, 2024, at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner hotel in McLean; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Korean Community Service Center of Greater Washington hereby be commended on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Korean Community Service Center of Greater Washington as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for its contributions to the Commonwealth.
