HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 44 Offered January 25, 2024 Commending the Bruton High School girls' volleyball team. ---------- Patron-- Green ----------

WHEREAS, the Bruton High School girls' volleyball team advanced to the Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship on November 14, 2023; and

WHEREAS, the Bruton High School Panthers earned their spot in the state championship with a commanding three-straight-set victory over the Central High School Falcons of Woodstock; and

WHEREAS, the Bruton Panthers have been on a remarkable run since head coach Charlene Daugherty joined the team in the 2022 season, going from a 5–45 record over three seasons to a 12–13 record in the 2022 season and a 19–7 record this past season; and

WHEREAS, the Bruton Panthers have been aided in their recent ascent by the skilled play of two sets of twin sisters, Gretchen and Savannah Davila and Jolie and Mina Faw, who also joined the team in 2022, and others, including Sienna Owens and Cassie Hall; and

WHEREAS, the Bruton Panthers' string of victories is made all the more impressive by the fact that the team represents the smallest school in the Virginia High School League Bay Rivers District, which has sent six schools to a total of 14 state finals in the past decade; and

WHEREAS, the success of the Bruton Panthers is the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Bruton High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Bruton High School girls' volleyball team hereby be commended for reaching the 2023 Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Charlene Daugherty, head coach of the Bruton High School girls' volleyball team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievement.
