Celebrating the life of Carl David Bevins.

WHEREAS, Carl David Bevins of Grundy, a longtime educator, author, and devoted father and grandfather, died on January 2, 2024; and

WHEREAS, after receiving a master's degree from the University of Virginia, Carl David "Dave" Bevins pursued a career as a teacher and school administrator in Buchanan County Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, over the course of his long and distinguished tenure, Dave Bevins supported and inspired students at J.M. Bevins Elementary School, Hurley High School, Grundy High School, Whitewood High School, and Russell Prater Elementary School, among others; and

WHEREAS, Dave Bevins also wrote for the Virginia Mountaineer newspaper for more than 30 years and authored two books, At Random and Growing Up in Grundy; and

WHEREAS, outside of his career, Dave Bevins enjoyed watching football, supporting the Grundy High School wrestling team, and traveling; his greatest joy in life was his beloved family, and he relished every opportunity to pass on his wisdom to his children and grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by his wife, Penny, Dave Bevins will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his sons, David and Bobby, and their families, and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Carl David Bevins; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Carl David Bevins as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
