Bill Title: Creates the Public Self-Care of Diabetes Act. Provides that a person with diabetes, or parent or legal guardian of a person with diabetes, may self-administer insulin or administer insulin for his or her child in any location, public or private, where the person or their parent or legal guardian are authorized to be, irrespective of whether the injection site is uncovered during or incidental to the administration of insulin. Effective immediately.

1 | AN ACT concerning public health.
| ||||||
2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||||
4 | Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the Public | ||||||
5 | Self-Care of Diabetes Act.
| ||||||
6 | Section 5. Purpose. The General Assembly finds that insulin | ||||||
7 | injection is necessary for diabetics and their continued health | ||||||
8 | and longevity. The General Assembly finds that forcing | ||||||
9 | diabetics to administer their personal insulin injections out | ||||||
10 | of public view is unnecessarily restrictive.

11 | Section 10. Public self-care of diabetes location. A person | ||||||
12 | with diabetes, or parent or legal guardian of a person with | ||||||
13 | diabetes, may self-administer insulin or administer insulin | ||||||
14 | for his or her child in any location, public or private, where | ||||||
15 | the person, or the person's parent or legal guardian, is | ||||||
16 | authorized to be, irrespective of whether the injection site is | ||||||
17 | uncovered during or incidental to the administration of | ||||||
18 | insulin.

19 | Section 15. Illegal drugs. Nothing in this Act shall be | ||||||
20 | construed to authorize the use of any illegal drug.
