R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The citizens of Texas lost a courageous and |
|
dedicated law enforcement officer with the death of U.S. Border |
|
Patrol Agent Ricardo G. Salinas on July 7, 1998, at the age of 24; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Wichita Falls on April 29, 1974, Ricardo |
|
Salinas was raised in a military family and traveled extensively in |
|
the United States and Spain during his youth; an accomplished |
|
athlete, he trained in karate and tae kwon do, receiving an |
|
adult-level black belt at age 16, and he was also recognized for his |
|
skill as a baseball player; after graduating from Judson High |
|
School in Converse in 1992, he went on to earn a bachelor's degree |
|
in criminal justice from The University of Texas at San Antonio in |
|
1996, and he furthered his knowledge by completing two law |
|
enforcement internships; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Salinas was a member of Class 351 at the |
|
Charleston U.S. Border Patrol Academy and completed his training in |
|
January 1998; assigned to the Harlingen Border Patrol Station, he |
|
was killed in the line of duty while assisting in the search for a |
|
murder suspect; in addition to his name being included on the Texas |
|
Peace Officers' Memorial Monument at the State Capitol, UTSA |
|
established a scholarship fund in his memory, and Salinas |
|
Elementary School in the Judson Independent School District and the |
|
Ricardo Salinas Health Clinic in San Antonio were named in his |
|
honor; and |
|
WHEREAS, Texans owe an incalculable debt of gratitude to the |
|
men and women of law enforcement who risk their lives in our behalf, |
|
and Ricardo Salinas's commitment to protecting the safety and |
|
well-being of the public will forever be remembered by all those who |
|
had the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and exemplary service of |
|
U.S. Border Patrol Agent Ricardo G. Salinas and extend heartfelt |
|
sympathy to his family and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ricardo |
|
Salinas. |
