HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

URGING THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII at Manoa and university of hawaii at hilo TO offer additional ONLINE DEGREE and certificate Programs.

 

 

 

     WHEREAS, an increasing number of institutions of higher education across the United States are offering online degree and certificate programs to students, and more are projected to do so; and

 

     WHEREAS, online courses have firmly established themselves as part of the American and international educational system; and

 

     WHEREAS, however, the University of Hawaii at Manoa and University of Hawaii at Hilo offer only a limited number of online degree and certificate programs; and

 

WHEREAS, the offering of additional online degree and certificate programs by the University of Hawaii at Manoa and University of Hawaii at Hilo could provide a more convenient, accessible, and affordable method for students locally, nationally, and globally to pursue higher education; and

 

     WHEREAS, the offering of additional online degree and certificate programs by the University of Hawaii at Manoa and University of Hawaii at Hilo could also result in financial benefits to these campuses, such as attracting greater numbers of tuition-paying students yet reducing the need for additional, costly capital improvements like classrooms and parking; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-ninth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2018, that the University of Hawaii at Manoa and University of Hawaii at Hilo are urged to offer additional online degree and certificate programs; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Chair of the University of Hawaii Board of Regents, President of the University of Hawaii and Interim Chancellor of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and Interim Chancellor of the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
