| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An |
2 | act relating to the public school system, including certain |
3 | provisions applicable as well to private and parochial |
4 | schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the |
5 | laws relating thereto," in pupils and attendance, further |
6 | providing for costs of tuition and maintenance of certain |
7 | exceptional children in approved institutions. |
8 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
9 | hereby enacts as follows: |
10 | Section 1. Section 1376 of the act of March 10, 1949 |
11 | (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, |
12 | amended July 4, 2004 (P.L.536, No.70), is amended by adding a |
13 | subsection to read: |
14 | Section 1376. Cost of Tuition and Maintenance of Certain |
15 | Exceptional Children in Approved Institutions.--* * * |
16 | (c.9) The Department of Eduction shall approve an |
17 | application to be an approved private school if the applicant: |
18 | (1) Is an auditory-oral school for the deaf. |
19 | (2) Is a member of the national organization of schools that |
20 | advances listening and spoken language education for children |

1 | with hearing loss. |
2 | (3) Has at least three faculty members who are listening and |
3 | spoken language specialists as certified by the Alexander Graham |
4 | Bell Association for the Deaf. |
5 | (4) Demonstrates, through independent verification, that the |
6 | applicant is compliant with all content areas or test domains |
7 | examined by the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf. |

9 | Section 2. Any and all regulations are abrogated to the |
10 | extent of any inconsistency with this act. |
11 | Section 3. This act shall take effect in 60 days. |
